Help

If you experience any problems with CMDS, please contact Customer Service at 800-735-6200 between 8:30 AM and 8:00 PM Eastern Time, or E-mail custserv@vicr.com. You may also submit a description of your problem via the Comments page.

The information below may be helpful if you have questions.

Issue: Browser name and version

Tip: Upgrade old browsers.

Explanation: This program was created to work with Netscape version 4 and higher, and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 and higher. If you are using an earlier version, we recommend that you upgrade your browser.

Issue: Cookies

Tip: Do not allow your browser to block cookies.

Explanation: This program requires the use of a cookie — a temporary user ID that the Web server sends to your browser. This cookie is returned each time you request a new Web page so the server can identify you as the same user. It allows the server to store information for you, such as your user name and password, needed to retrieve the completed designs saved in your account. The cookie is stored in your browser, not on your hard drive, and it expires when you close your browser.

Issue: Expired log on — program automatically closes and logs you off

Tip: Complete and save a product design in one sitting to avoid losing information.

Explanation: The information stored for you on the Web server and accessed by your cookie (described above) expires when you log off, when you close your browser, or 30 minutes after your last interaction with the server if you are still within the program. This stored information includes your user name and password, which you used to log on. Consequently, if you partially design a product and then are distracted for more than 30 minutes before you have a chance to complete the design and save it your account, the information you entered will be lost.

Issue: Web forms — Field to field navigation using the tab key

Tip: Avoid tabbing from field to field. Use your mouse to navigate among input fields.

Explanation: Many CMDS users are accustomed to tabbing from field to field when entering data into simple Web forms. In the product specification and design pages of CMDS, user input fields are interspersed with fields that display calculated feedback to user input. Consequently, using the tab key in most cases will not put the cursor in the next available input field. Instead, doing so may cause either no reaction or a pop-up message saying the data in the target field cannot be changed. Users in the habit of tabbing from field to field will find these reactions confusing.

Microsoft Internet Explorer users: To avoid the problems described above, the tab key has been disabled in the product design pages. (Not possible with Netscape.)

Issue: Web forms — Displaying feedback information in response to user input

Tip: Click outside the input field after you finish entering data to trigger the response

Explanation: In the product specification and design pages of CMDS, user input fields are interspersed with fields that display calculated feedback to user input. User input does not register until the user clicks somewhere outside the box. That is the signal to the application that the user has finished entering data.

Issue: Resizing Netscape 4 browser window

Tip: If you need to adjust the size of your browser window, do so before entering product design information.

Explanation: The Netscape 4 browser reloads the contents of the browser window when the window is resized. While information entered into form elements may reappear after the resize, other — invisible — information will be lost. Reload the page after resizing the window to clear form elements.
