About CMDS
Custom Module Design System
CMDS (Custom Module Design System) is a patented system which enables Vicor's customers to specify on-line, and verify in real time, the performance and attributes of Micro, Mini, or Maxi DC-DC converters.
CMDS enables the design of DC-DC converters with any output voltage between 2 and 48 Vdc and with any input voltage from 18 to 425 Vdc within an input voltage range of up to 2.1:1. All of the Vicor established brick standards, full- half- and quarter-size, are available. Output power is selectable over a continuous range of 20 to 500 Watts per module and modules can be configured in fault-tolerant arrays capable of delivering several kilowatts.
CMDS offers three design opportunities. "Predefined" allows the user to select a 24Vin, 48Vin, 300Vin, or 375Vin converter design and select from a variety of pin, baseplate, and environmental grade options. CMDS will return a part number and US one-piece price. Predefined modules have no nonrecurring engineering (NRE) charge and are available in standard lead times.
If a Predefined design does not meet a user’s requirements, they can query Vicor’s extensive library of “Nonstandard” designs for a match to their requirements. Vicor has created over 100 unique designs, and the library of designs is always growing. If a user finds an electrical design suitable to their needs, they can select the pin style, baseplate, and environmental grade needed, and generate a special part number and price. Nonstandard designs are also available in standard lead times, and there is a $1,500 setup charge.
"User Defined" allows the user to enter their design parameters (including input voltage range, output voltage set point, output power and environmental grade) and mechanical variations (including package size, baseplate and pin options). Using these specifications, CMDS will test the feasibility of the design in real time, usually less than 30 seconds. If feasible, CMDS will provide a unique part number and unit price. Contact Vicor for nonrecurring engineering charges and delivery schedule. Each unique electrical design requires an NRE charge.
Using CMDS: To use CMDS you can register, which allows you to use CMDS's full capabilities. As a registered user, you may specify 24Vin, 48Vin, 300Vin or 375Vin DC-DC converters ("Predefined") and receive part numbers, pricing, and delivery. You may also design your own unique DC-DC converters ("User Defined"), and receive design verification, part numbers, pricing, delivery, and order your products on-line. In addition, "My Designs" stores all of your designs, keeping them easily accessible for ordering later, if you wish.
If you choose not to register, you may specify 24Vin, 48Vin, 300Vin or 375Vin DC-DC converters ("Predefined"), and receive part numbers, pricing, and delivery. You may also design your own unique DC-DC converters ("User Defined"), and verify their designs, however you will not be able to assign part numbers or save your designs in the "My Designs" section. You will have the opportunity to register at any time while using the system.
